Job Title: Port Engineer
The Keystone Shipping Co. is seeking a Port Engineer to report to our Fleet engineer and assist
in daily management and maintenance of our vessel “Rocketship” located in Decatur, Alabama.
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
• Bachelor ‘s Degree in Marine Engineering from an accredited maritime academy, or
equivalent engineering education.
• US Coast Guard unlimited license as First Assistant Engineer or higher, for diesel
propelled vessels.
• At least five (5) years of experience sailing aboard inland river or oceangoing
commercial vessels, with time as First Assistant and/or Chief Engineer preferred
• At least three (3) years of experience in vessel operation, maintenance, or repair. Prior
Port Engineer experience or project management of drydocking’s or conversions.
• Strong communications, analytical and administrative skills.
• Working knowledge of U.S. Coast Guard and ABS rules and regulations.
• Working knowledge of ABS NS5 Planned Maintenance software a plus
• Familiarity with the Inland Waterways a plus
• Have a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) issued by the TSA
• Role is based in the Decatur/Huntsville area and requires moderate travel to ship
locations when on voyage (Cape Canaveral and occasionally California).
• Be able to pass a physical and be physically able to enter confined spaces and climb
ladders aboard ships while at sea or in port.
Job Responsibilities to include but not limited to:
• Overall engineering management for the vessel, including operation, maintenance, repair,
condition, and certification.
• Schedule and manage voyage repairs, drydocking’s, and repairs, including requisitioning
and procurement of material and services.
• Ensure that the vessel is fully certificated and documented and shall coordinate required
vessel inspections by regulatory body inspectors.
• Preparation of annual budgets for spare parts, voyage repairs, major repairs and special
expenditures and the fiscal management of the vessel within the approved budgets.
• Be thoroughly familiar with the operational status, condition of hull and all equipment
aboard the vessel.
• Overseeing the technical aspects of the engineering operation of the vessel. In this
capacity, the Port Engineer shall work closely with senior officers and provide technical advice to the vessel and other shoreside departments when necessary.
• Monitor the engineering performance of the vessel and make recommendations for
improvements and modifications to the Chief Engineers and company engineering
management.
• Review vessel operating, performance and maintenance data submitted by the Chief
Engineer to ensure efficient operation and adherence to maintenance and safety
standards.
• Represent the company in industry technical forums as necessary
• Undertake additional assignments as directed
