Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee To Meet In Omaha

The Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee (MRRIC) will hold its 40th meeting March 27–29 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Omaha Downtown, 1616 Dodge St., Omaha, Neb. 68102, beginning at 8 a.m. March 27, and concluding at 12:30 p.m. March 29.

The draft MRRIC meeting agenda can be found online at www.MRRIC.org.

The committee established three new adaptive management work groups in August 2017 to help implement the Corps’ proposed adaptive management (AM) strategy. These work groups—focused on the fish, birds, and human considerations—participated in the first AM workshop in February 2018 and will present the results of that workshop to the entire committee at the March plenary.

MRRIC will also seek consensus recommendations on several decisions including the MRRIC annual work plan, work group membership, and other recommendations presented by the work groups.

“I’m excited to see the work done by the Corps, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and MRRIC members to lay the foundation for the AM process come to fruition,” said MRRIC Chair Gail Bingham. “The information from the Fall Science Meeting was very useful in framing issues for discussion at the AM workshop, and the results of both meetings will be important context for the discussion at this upcoming meeting of the Corps’ draft strategic plan for the recovery program.”

The plenary sessions of this meeting are open to members of the public who will have an opportunity during each daily session to address the committee and the lead federal agencies, the Corps and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

MRRIC is a 70-member committee comprised of stakeholders and representatives of tribal, state and federal governments throughout the Missouri River Basin. This committee provides recommendations to federal agencies on the current and future activities of the Missouri River Recovery Program. The committee makes its substantive recommendations by consensus. The committee, established in the fall of 2008, meets regularly at various locations throughout the Missouri River Basin. The next MRRIC meeting will be held May 22-24, 2018, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
