Corps Holds Great Lakes “Shallow Draft Recreational Harbor” Meetings

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held Great Lakes “Shallow Draft Recreational Harbor” meetings in April at multiple locations throughout the Great Lakes region, and via web and teleconference. The focus of the meeting was on the needs of shallow draft recreational harbors, highlighting funding issues and system requirements. The Great Lakes shallow draft recreational harbors face the challenge of aging infrastructure and limited funding from federal budgets. Stakeholders met to discuss accomplishments over the past year and requirements for the next two years, as well as opportunities for involvement. Specifically, agenda items included: recreational harbor funding issues and status; funding process and trends; 2017 accomplishments; status of FY18 and FY 19 funding; 2018 dredging needs and President’s budget; stakeholder involvement; and comments from small harbor representatives.
