Mulzer Crushed Stone Proposes New Fleeting Areas Near Rockport, Ind.

Mulzer Crushed Stone Inc. is applying to the Louisville Engineer District for permits to expand two adjacent fleeting areas on the right descending bank of the Ohio River.

One proposal would establish four new fleeting spaces for towboats and/or switch boats in the middle yard fleeting area at its site Mile 746.6 near Rockport, Ind. The proposed work would bring to five the total number of fleeting spaces. Boats in the four new spaces would be tied to the existing permitted spud barge. This addition would require the fleeting area to encroach riverward by two barge widths. No discharge of dredged or fill material is proposed. No red-flag barges will be fleeted in the area.

The other permit application would add five 6-foot diameter cells to its site at Mile 746 and increase the existing 20-foot diameter cell to a diameter of 30 feet. The project would also add five new barge fleeting spaces to the existing 25-barge fleeting space, that will result in a new fleeting area that is five barges long by six barges wide.
