Tulsa Port Releases September Tonnage Report

The total barge tonnage through the Tulsa Port of Catoosa in September was 82,885 tons from 50 barges, boosting the cumulative total from January through September to 1,678,756 tons. The tonnage is lower than the 2017 total for the same periods. The tonnage for September 2017 was 191,973 tons with 92 barges handled.

Total shipping for the entire McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System in September was 870,549 tons, more than 200,000 tons lower than September 2017. Of the September 2018 total, nearly 24 percent of the cargo was shipped through Oklahoma and 10 percent shipped through the Tulsa Port of Catoosa.

The port handled 18 percent of the cargo shipped on the navigation system last year in September and 41 percent of the cargo moved through Oklahoma.

The port had more inbound barges and tonnage than outbound in both August and September this year, an unusual trend for the port when compared to last year and January through September 2017.

More than 105,000 tons of steel has been shipped to the Tulsa Port of Catoosa so far in 2018.
