Full Closures Planned At Harvey Sector Gate

The New Orleans Engineer District has announced changes to the closure plan for repairs to the Harvey Canal Sector Gate.

The gate was originally planned to be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day from January 14 through March 9 (WJ, January 21). However, the district announced January 18 that, because of necessary repairs on the gate hinges, there will be two full closures to navigation lasting five days each. The closures will be in effect from 6 a.m. today (January 28) through 6 p.m. February 1, and from 6 a.m. February 4 through 6 p.m. February 8.

The repair work will then return to the previously announced 12-hour closures each day, which will last until March 9. The district said that at times during that period, the channel will only be restricted and light vessels will be able to pass at slow speed on the opposite side of the channel after coordinating with the mv. Bienville on VHF channel 13.

Throughout the work, the Algiers Lock can be used as an alternate route.
