SCI To Host Melody Golding Book Signing

The Seamen’s Church Institute will host a will host a book signing by Melody Golding, followed by a reception to celebrate the book’s launch. The event will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. June 13 at the institute’s Center for Maritime Education, 129 S. Water St. in Paducah, Ky.

In her book, “Life Between the Levees,” Golding presents an insider’s view of life on the river with stories from the pilots themselves, culled from 10 years of interviews. She pairs these narratives with her photography capturing their distinctive yet insular river culture.

Documenting the river’s Wild West past as well as its current concerns with safety regulations and new technology, “Between the Levees” is Golding’s third published book with The University Press of Mississippi, following “Katrina: Mississippi Women Remember” and “Panther Tract.” Her photography is on display in the Congressional Hearing Room at the Department of Homeland Security and has been featured in solo exhibits at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., among other universities, colleges and museums.

Golding is donating all royalties from the book to the Seamen’s Church Institute.
