Avondale Proposes Barge Fleet Extension

Avondale Marine LLC is proposing to extend its barge fleeting area in Jefferson Parish, La.

According to a permit application filed with the New Orleans Engineer District, the project site is located on the right descending bank of the Mississippi River between Mile 106.5 and Mile 108 above Head of Passes, at 5100 River Road in Avondale, La.

The company proposes to extend its existing barge fleeting operation to extend up to 303 feet out into the river, in a seven-by-three configuration.

The company says no jurisdictional wetlands will be affected. The New Orleans Engineer District has ruled that the project will not affect the pallid sturgeon that frequents these waters, or any other species listed as endangered.
