Red River Waterway Commission Announces New Mobile App

The Red River Waterway Commission, the seven-parish state agency charged with fostering economic growth and recreation on the waterway, announced November 26 the release of a new mobile app for waterway users.

“In early 2019, the Red River Waterway Commission committed to developing a mobile application to benefit the users of the J. Bennnett Johnston Waterway,” said Eric Gilmore, marketing director for the commission.

“Having a mission that includes both navigation and recreation, the commission felt we needed to use every avenue to get information to the users of the waterway.”

The app is available for both Apple and Android devices. Mobile users have easy access to real-time launch status for each of the waterway’s 19 boat launches, a tool especially useful during high water.

“The Rec Area button gives GPS pin locations of all of our recreation areas with a link to turn-by-turn navigation on your device,” Gilmore said. “The River Maps button has PDF files of every page in the navigation chart for the J. Bennett Johnston Waterway.”

The app also includes News and Water Level buttons for the waterway and surrounding areas, along with information about the commission and contact information for staff and commissioners.

“We plan on constantly improving the mobile application with help from our users,” Gilmore said.
