Barges Removed From San Jose Island

All six barges that were blown ashore by Hurricane Harvey 30 months ago have been removed from San Jose Island, a barrier island and wildlife refuge off the Texas coast, Kirby Corporation announced February 19.

Matt Woodruff, vice president of public and government affairs at Kirby, told local media that the company would now restore dunes and landscape.

At the time of Hurricane Harvey, the barges were owned by Higman Marine. Kirby assumed responsibility for removing the barges when it bought Higman Marine.
