Coast Guard Searches For Person In The Water Near LMR Mile 119

Shortly after 9 p.m. August 4, Coast Guard Sector New Orleans announced that Coast Guard watchstanders, St. Mary Parish law enforcement officials and crew members from multiple good Samaritan vessels were involved in a search for a 60-year-old man who fell into the Mississippi River at the Gnots Reserve fleet location near Mile 119.

St. Charles Parish officials notified the Coast Guard that the man “reportedly lost his balance reaching for an object and fell in the water.” The Coast Guard closed the Mississippi River between Mile 116 and Mile 120 during the search effort.

Agencies involved in the search included a 29-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station New Orleans, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, the marine division of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Port of South Louisiana, the Pontchartrain Levee District and multiple maritime industry vessels.

As of press time, the Coast Guard had not replied to a request for comment
