Towboat Allides With Lock and Dam

A towboat lodged against Lock & Dam 4 on the Mississippi River in Alma, Wis., after reportedly losing control and alliding with the dam on the night of May 21. It was removed the next day. The Susan J. Gundlach had been southbound in Pool 4 when it apparently lost control. 

No injuries were reported among crewmembers or lock workers, and no spills were reported.

The Buffalo County (Wis.) Sheriff’s Office told local media that calls regarding the crash came in shortly after 11 p.m. According to the sheriff, the towboat was headed south on Pool 4 of the river when it lost control near Lock and Dam 4.

The Susan J. Gundlach, owned by Canal Barge Company, is a 2,000 hp., twin-screw towboat built in 2012.
