AWO Introduces New Safety Video

The American Waterways Operators (AWO) has produced a new video highlighting the strong safety record of the barge industry.

“Our industry has long been defined by its visionary safety leadership, maintaining by far the lowest injury and fatality rate among all modes of freight transportation while moving nearly 700 million tons of cargo throughout the nation each year,” the association said in an announcement of the video.

Using data from the National Waterways Foundation and noting the recent implementation of Subchapter M, the two-minute video, “The Tugboat, Towboat and Barge Industry: Delivering Safety on America’s Waterways,” emphasizes the industry’s focus on the safety of mariners, the communities served and the environment.

“The video also highlights our strong, longstanding safety partnership with the Coast Guard and features mariners from across the country discussing the importance of safety,” AWO said.
