Superior Ag Opens Ohio River Terminal
Superior Ag celebrated the opening of its new, 32,000-ton dry fertilizer distribution and storage facility, the Ohio River Terminal, on August 25.
The terminal, located in Rockport, Ind., at Ohio River Mile 743.8, is one of the largest retail fertilizer distribution facilities in the region. It was built on the site of the former Summit River Terminal.
Superior Ag purchased the 18-acre site in January 2025. Construction on the terminal, in partnership with Stueve Construction, began in July 2025.
The terminal is designed to strengthen Superior Ag’s ability to efficiently receive, store and distribute crop nutrients, enhancing supply chain reliability and positioning the cooperative for future growth, according to the company. Total investment in the facility exceeds $20 million.
Superior Ag is an Indiana-based, farmer-owned cooperative. It provides a full range of agronomy, grain, livestock nutrition and energy support to farmers in southwestern Indiana, northern and central Kentucky and the bordering regions of Illinois. The company has 13 agronomy locations, six grain elevators, a feed mill, feed store and two retail fuel stations. The company also has an ownership stake in SynEnergy, providing liquid power fuels and propane under the brand CountryMark.
The Ohio River Terminal provides direct river access, improving logistics and creating greater flexibility in serving the needs of area farmers, company leaders said.

The facility features modern unloading, storage and handling capabilities designed to increase fertilizer availability during critical application windows, according to the company. Farmers will be able to have their own trucks loaded with fertilizer, or fertilizer can be loaded onto Superior’s trucks and spread on farmers’ land using the company’s spreaders. The facility offers direct barge-to-truck unloading as well as storage, custom blending, retail sales and loadout. Products are shipped upriver from a variety of suppliers in the New Orleans area, and then they are stored and blended on site.
Key features of the terminal include 10 large bins for diverse fertilizer segregation, a 600-tons-per-hour barge receiver that can unload a full barge in roughly three hours, a 300-tons-per-hour truck receiver that can offload a truck in about five minutes and 300-tons-per-hour blend and ship capability, allowing for the loading of one 25-ton truck in five minutes. Overhead weigh hoppers on scales allow a seamless “dump-and-go” for outbound trucks. The terminal also offers automated treatment systems for stabilizers, micronutrients and dust control. Superior Ag expects to unload 30 to 35 barges per year at the facility.
