SCI Hosts Maritime Bell Luncheon in Houston

The Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) welcomed more than 300 guests to its annual Maritime Bell Luncheon on March 27 at the Hilton Americas in Houston. This event, previously called the “Maritime Training Benefit Luncheon,” celebrates the maritime community of Houston and the broader Gulf Coast region.

This year, SCI recognized two individuals for their contributions to the maritime industry. John Roberts, president and CEO of Ingram Marine Group in Nashville, received the Maritime Bell Award. Scott Glatter, training specialist at Houston-based Kirby Inland Marine, was honored with the Outstanding Trainer Award.

“We look forward every year to bringing together our friends and partners from Houston and across the Gulf Coast,” said the Rev. Mark Nestlehutt, president and executive director of the Seamen’s Church Institute. “We’re proud to celebrate the achievements of John Roberts and Scott Glatter, and we are deeply grateful for the sponsors, donors and attendees who supported this important gathering and SCI’s ongoing mission.”

The luncheon raised $275,000 in support of SCI’s programs, which include chaplaincy, crisis response, professional training and advocacy for mariners, both brown water and blue water.

The event opened with a blessing from the Rev. Nancy Simpson, a chaplain with SCI’s Ministry on the River program who serves the Houston Ship Channel and Gulf Coast region.
