Gulf Copper & Manufacturing Expands Partnership With HII

Gulf Copper & Manufacturing Corporation announced an expanded agreement with HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division November 11 to support the construction of Flight III Arleigh Burke-class destroyers for the U.S. Navy.

“This milestone builds on the successful completion of a year-long pilot program and underscores Gulf Copper’s commitment to excellence, reliability and innovation in serving national defense programs,” the company said on its website.

The Flight III Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are among the most advanced vessels in the U.S. Navy’s fleet. Designed for multi-mission capabilities, these ships are equipped with cutting-edge technology to support air, surface and subsurface operations.

Gulf Copper said its expanded role in the production of Flight III destroyers reflects the company’s ongoing investments in workforce development and infrastructure.

The new contract will see Gulf Copper fabricating select outfitted structural units at its Port Arthur and Galveston facilities. This expanded agreement is part of Gulf Copper’s recently executed five-year strategic sourcing agreement with HII, the nation’s largest military shipbuilder.Founded as a pipe fabrication company in 1948, Gulf Copper specializes in repairing, refurbishing and fabricating vital components for the oil and gas, marine transportation, refining, petrochemical and government sectors. It has strategically located shipyards, drydocks and fabrication facilities on the Gulf Coast and in Mexico. Its services include complete vessel and rig repairs, drydocking, blasting, painting, machining, mechanical and electrical services and offshore solutions, including inspections, fabrication, maintenance and repair services.

“As a retired Navy sailor who has worked and sailed aboard the very type of vessel we are fabricating, this project is close to home,” said George R. Harris, program manager at Gulf Copper. “To be entrusted by HII with an expanded role on a project of this magnitude is both an honor and a responsibility we take very seriously. It is truly inspiring to support the greatest military in the world, and this effort represents the skill, dedication and pride of our workforce in helping to keep our service members safe.”
