Living Lands & Waters Holds Spring Break In Grafton, Ill.

More than 125 student volunteers showed up in Grafton, Ill., in March to help Living Lands & Waters remove 26,632 pounds of garbage from the shoreline near the confluence of the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. Some items retrieved from the shore included 70 tires, 71 55-gallon plastic barrels, and over 1,200 square feet of styrofoam. The organization said it also removed more than 10 acres of invasive bush honeysuckle and painted the dining halls of three group camps at nearby Pere Marquette State Park.
