Main Chamber Closed At Belleville L&D

A total closure of the Ohio River at the Belleville (W.Va.) Locks and Dam near Mile 204 took place April 11, after a hydraulic line failure occurred in the main chamber. The auxiliary lock was reopened later that same day, but the main chamber remains closed as this story went to press on April 12.

Huntington Engineer District spokesman, Kent Browning said the chamber will be closed during repairs and it is not known when it will reopen. There is currently no queue at the auxiliary lock.

The fluid from the hydraulic line failure was contained at the site and did not enter the river.

Additional Notices to Navigation Interests will be issued once the situation is assessed and a schedule can be determined.
