Poland Dredging Contract Awarded to Van Oord and Dredging International

Van Oord and Dredging International, a DEME Group subsidiary, have been awarded a contract to deepen and widen a 62-kilometer (38-mile) section of the Szczecin fairway in Poland.

The project will take the fairway from 10.5 to 12.5 meters (34.5 to 41 feet). The dredged material will be used to construct two artificial islands in the Szczecin lagoon. Further work will include reinforcement of slopes and quay walls along the channel, and relocation of cables and navigational aids.

The EUR 313 million ($360 million) contract is for design and build. The European Union is co-financing the project. Work will start at the end of the year with expected completion within 42 months.
