Pushing Hope Golf Tourney Set For August 19

The 2022 Pushing Hope Annual Marine Industry Charity Tournament will feature a new location. This year’s event will be held at the Spencer T. Olin Golf Course, an Arnold Palmer-designed course in Alton, Ill.

The event is scheduled for Friday, August 19. As in previous years, it will support Mary Crowley Cancer Research, which supports innovative research and treatments for all forms of cancer.

The schedule includes shotgun-start golf rounds beginning at 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., with a buffet-style lunch in between including pulled pork, brats and more. Following the golf, there will be a seafood boil beginning at 5 p.m., and a cornhole tournament at 6:30 p.m.

The tournament is coordinated by Ceres Barge Line and Ceres Consulting LLC. Ceres also operates the “pink barge” Big Hope 1, which also benefits Mary Crowley Research.

The tournament began in the 1980s as a river-industry charity softball tournament. It was later hosted by Olympic Marine, MEMCO and AEP River Operations. Ceres has hosted since 2016.

Unlike previous years, the 2022 Pushing Hope event will not include a softball tournament.

“Although the year-to-year activities have changed, our ultimate goal remains to raise money for Mary Crowley Cancer Research,” Ceres says on its website.
