Tennessee Valley Authority Offers Rare Public Tours Of Some Of Its Dams

In celebration of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s 90th anniversary in 2023, TVA is offering a chance for the public to tour several of its dams.

The tours will allow the public to see some of the inner workings of the dams and to learn how TVA produces hydropower.

Each tour is limited to 20 people. Tours are offered twice a day, at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Each tour will last 60 to 90 minutes.

Those interested must register for the tour of their choice online at www.tva.com/about-tva/our-history/tva-turns-90. In recognition of the anniversary, TVA will also add heritage articles and other historic content throughout the year.

Random Drawings

Since demand for the tours is high, a random drawing will select from the pool of registrants. TVA will notify registrants by email of whether they have been selected. Registration does not guarantee a space on the tour.

Current TVA employees should not register.

June tours are June 2 and June 9 at Kentucky Dam and June 23 at Raccoon Mountain Pumped-Storage Plant. Registration for the June tours opened May 8 and closes May 21, and email notification will be by May 26.

July tours will be July 7 at Norris Dam, July 14 at at Raccoon Mountain Pumped-Storage Plant, July 21 at Chickamauga Dam and July 28 at Fontana Dam. Registration opens June 12 and closes June 26. Email notification will be by June 30.
