Kaskaskia Navigation Study Planned

The St. Louis Engineer District, in coordination with the non-federal sponsor, Kaskaskia Regional Port District, is hosting an in-person public meeting June 22 to discuss a navigation study for Kaskaskia Regional Port District Terminal 2, near Baldwin, Ill. The meeting will run from 6 – 8 p.m. at Southwestern Illinois College in Red Bud, Ill.

The project, which is authorized through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Continuing Authorities Program, is aimed at improvement of navigational efficiency at the Kaskaskia Regional Port District Terminal 2. Options being considered include dredging two river side channels to allow shipping and a barge turning area, a dredge disposal area and a new dock as a local facility implemented by the port district.
