Kentucky Grant Funds Henderson County Riverport Scale, Access Road Upgrades

A state grant announced in July will help the Henderson County Riverport Authority to replace and upgrade its dry fertilizer scale.

Announced in July, the Kentucky Riverport Improvement (KRI) grant, in the amount of $122,000, will allow the purchase and installation of a new, fully automated scale system that will speed up load out times, better ensure accuracy and accountability and reduce port congestion, leading to a safer work environment, Executive Director Ben Weithman said.

The grant also funds widening and adding access drives to allow more efficient truck movement within the port.

The grant requires a local match, and the full value of the project is $244,000. It has a mid-December completion date.

“An efficient transportation system in all its modes – highway, air, rail, and water – is essential to our economy and standard of living,” Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said in making the KRI grant announcements. “Our Kentucky riverports play a unique role in that system. We’re pleased to be able to support these strategic investments.”

The KRI grants were awarded to six projects at four of the state’s public riverports. The others were $30,510 to the Paducah-McCracken County Riverport Authority for apron and entranceway work; $184,061 to the Eddyville Riverport and Industrial Development Authority for an excavator; and three projects with a total of $16,419 in grant funds awarded to the Owensboro Riverport Authority for two different-sized forklifts and a compact track loader.
