Annual Marine Industry Day Set For May 10 At Four Seasons Hotel In New Orleans

The Greater New Orleans Port Safety Council’s Lower Mississippi River Harbor Safety Committee will host the annual Marine Industry Day conference May 10 at the New Orleans Four Seasons Hotel, where Canal Street meets the river.

There is no cost to attend. Registration is available at marineindustryday2024.eventbrite.com.

As with every year since the single-day conference was launched in 2012, this year’s Marine Industry Day will touch on everything from regulations impacting maritime operations to new technologies and how the global economy impacts traffic on the Mississippi River.

“We’re going to address hot-topic issues that affect a broad cross section of the maritime industry,” said Christine Titus, secretary-treasurer of the Greater New Orleans Port Safety Council.

She added that a strength of Marine Industry Day is that such of broad range of maritime community leaders attend.

“Just having everyone in the same room helps with planning and coordination,” she said.

Titus said attendees can expect a discussion on Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment (SASH) policies and how U.S. Coast Guard policies compare and relate to state and local laws and company policies.

Likewise, experts speaking at the Marine Industry Day will assess how global conflicts, like the war in Ukraine and threats to ships in the Red Sea, impact vessel traffic and cargo demand.

“Because safety in international waters can definitely affect the supply chain,” Titus said.

Other major topics will include cybersecurity risks and the role emerging technologies and alternative energy sources could play on individual company operations and traffic flows in the Mississippi River.

“How will increased global investment in these technologies impact the industry?” Titus asked.

While the Marine Industry Day is free, pre-registration is required. The conference includes complimentary breakfast and lunch. Sponsorships are available.
