Wright, Tillery To Receive Awards From Global Maritime Ministries
New Orleans-based Global Maritime Ministries (GMM) has announced the recipients of this year’s Crystal Lighthouse and Rev. John P. Vandercook Service awards, which will be presented at the organization’s Lighthouse Gala on September 25.
State Rep. Mark Wright will receive the Crystal Lighthouse Award, which recognizes Global Maritime’s maritime person of the year. Wright, a former regional vice president for The American Waterways Operators (AWO), has served in the Louisiana House of Representatives since late 2017. During his time in the Louisiana House, Wright has promoted waterways infrastructure funding and collaboration and was instrumental in the formation of the Louisiana Ports and Waterways Infrastructure Commission, on which he currently serves.
Logan Tillery, a sergeant in the Port of New Orleans’ Harbor Police Department, will receive the organization’s maritime humanitarian of the year award in recognition of bravery and swift action that “saved the life of a young man.”
“His quick thinking and empathy saved a life, and his actions reflect the very best of the Port of New Orleans and our Harbor Police Department,” said Beth Branch, president and CEO of the Port of New Orleans.
Past recipients of the GMM awards include Gary LaGrange, former president and CEO of the Port of New Orleans; Sean Duffy, executive director of the Big River Coalition; David Fennelly, former co-chairman of Associated Terminals and Turn Services; Phil Schifflin, former captain of the port of Coast Guard Sector New Orleans; Robert Hecker, former chief of the New Orleans Harbor Police Department; Capt. Ronald Branch, president of the Louisiana Maritime Association; and Lt. Peter Brito with the Harbor Police Department.
Global Maritime Ministries’ Lighthouse Gala will be held September 25 at the Audubon Tea Room. The event will include dinner, a silent auction and the award presentations.
