Dredging Contracts

Weeks Marine Inc., based in Covington, La., was awarded three dredging contracts for dredging in Kings Bay, Ga., La Porte, Texas, and Venice, La.

The first contract, a firm-fixed-price contract totaling more than $10.5 million, was awarded to construct an emergency saltwater barrier sill on the Mississippi River in Venice, La. in response to salt water from the Gulf entering the river due to low river levels. The severity of the water levels has made it possible for salt water from the Gulf to intrude farther upstream than is considered safe for municipal drinking water and industrial water supplies. The sill will be constructed to an elevation of -55 feet but may be adjusted if needed. The total value of the project has reached nearly $31.5 million and is expected to be completed at the end of October, with work contracted by the New Orleans Engineer District.

Weeks Marine was also awarded a firm-fixed-price contract totaling more than $28 million for maintenance dredging of the Kings Bay Entrance Channel in St. Marys, Georgia. Work will be contracted through the Corps of Engineers of Jacksonville, Fla., and is expected to be completed by the end of March.

An $11 million modification has also been awarded for work in the Bayport Ship Channel, bringing the total cumulative value of the project to more than $69 million. Work in La Porte, Texas, is expected to be completed at the end of the year. The work is being contracted by the Galveston Engineer District.

Established in 1919, Weeks Marine specializes in construction, dredging, marine services, tunneling and aggregates. Subsidiaries include McNally International Inc., Healy Tibbitts Builders Inc. and North American Aggregates.

Mike Hooks LLC, based in Westlake, La., has been awarded a firm-fixed-price contract of more than $23.5 million to dredge Galveston Harbor and Channel. Work is projected to be completed by mid-July of next year and will be contracted through the Galveston Engineer District. Five bids were solicited online.

Mike Hooks, LLC, founded in 1945, specializes in maintenance dredging, port expansion and disaster recovery, as well as wetland restoration and beach reclamation.

The St. Louis District has chosen the following companies to compete for each order of a $50 million firm-fixed-price contract for operations and maintenance dredging within the district: Houston-based Viking Dredging LLC, Dubuque Barge and Fleeting Service of Dubuque, Iowa, Magruder Construction Company of Eolia, Mo., Ahtna-Brennan, an Irvine, Calif.-based joint venture; Jackson D. Summers of Missouri Valley, Iowa; King Company Inc. of Holland, Mich., New Orleans-based Next Generation Logistics and Davinroy Mechanical Contractor Inc. of Belleville, Ill. Bids were solicited online with eight bids received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order. The estimated completion date for the work is September 7, 2030.
