National Rivers Hall Of Fame Names Class Of 2025

The National Rivers Hall of Fame, located at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque, Iowa, has announced a pair of inductees for the hall of fame class of 2025: the late Ed Smith and the late Gouveneur Kemble “G.K.” Warren.

Smith, who lived from 1914 to 1989, worked as a fireman, feeding the fires that fueled steam-powered riverboats. He worked aboard the Admiral, Avalon and the Delta Queen. Smith is credited with saving the Delta Queen, not once, but twice.

Warren was a renowned civil engineer and general during the Civil War, known best as the “hero of Little Round Top” during the Battle of Gettysburg. His survey work was instrumental in mapping and developing the Upper Mississippi River and its tributaries.
