MRC Announces Spring 2026 Inspection Tour

The Mississippi River Commission (MRC) has announced dates and locations for its annual high water inspection tour, set for the last week in March. The commission, headquartered in Vicksburg, Miss., and led by Mississippi Valley Division commander Maj. Gen. Kimberly Peeples, is charged with developing plans to foster navigation, promote commerce and prevent floods on the Mississippi River and its tributaries. The MRC holds two inspection tours each year, a low water tour in late summer and a high water tour in early spring.

The first meeting in this year’s high water tour will begin at 9 a.m. March 23 aboard the mv. Mississippi along the New Madrid, Mo., city front. The following day, the mv. Mississippi will dock at the Mud Island River Park Landing in Memphis, Tenn., for a second public meeting to begin at 9 a.m. Then, on March 26, the Mississippi River Commission will convene a third meeting beginning at 9 a.m. at the Vicksburg, Miss., city front. A fourth and final meeting will then take place beginning at 9 a.m. March 27 in Baton Rouge, La., where the mv. Mississippi will dock just above where the USS Kidd typically is docked.

Each meeting is open to the public. Meetings will include a summary report by Peeples, the president of the Mississippi River Commission, on national and regional issues affecting the Corps of Engineers and projects related to the Mississippi River and Tributaries project. The meetings will also feature a report from the commander of each respective Corps district (Memphis, Vicksburg and New Orleans). Local organizations and members of the public are invited to offer public comments or give presentations on programs and projects affecting each area. Each meeting is scheduled to end at 12:30 p.m.
