Lake Pepin Crash Results in Fatalities
Three people died after a 27-foot pontoon boat overturned on Lake Pepin late in the evening of July 11 after, according to officials, it collided with a barge. The Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin received a 911 call at about 10:45 p.m., according to a release posted on social media.
Emergency crews found the 27-foot pontoon boat overturned offshore from a YMCA camp on Deer Island. Three people were found clinging to the boat and told responders that three other occupants were missing. First responders found the three missing people, who were later declared dead.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is the lead agency investigating the crash, assisted by the Pepin County Sheriff’s Office and Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office.
