Dredging Begins At St. Paul Barge Terminal
The St. Paul Engineer District is conducting routine dredging at the St. Paul Barge Terminal on the Upper Mississippi River.
The project covers the area between river miles 836.5 and 837.5 in Pool 2. The Corps estimates that approximately 17,620 cubic yards of material will be removed to maintain a 300-foot-wide channel at a depth of 12 feet.
A contract mechanical dredge is being used for the project, which is expected to take approximately nine dredging days. The Corps proposed beginning the work August 25.
The Corps’ August 20 survey showed the channel was 440 feet wide between the 9-foot contours and 360 feet wide between the 10.5-foot contours. The dredging is considered routine channel maintenance.
Material removed from the channel will be placed at the Southport site, a historically used beneficial-use placement site.
The St. Paul Barge Terminal was last dredged in September 2025. The Corps reports that the site has historically been dredged 49 percent of the time, with an average of 85,927 cubic yards removed per job.
