Hines Furlong Line (HFL) is in the midst of an 11-vessel new build program, with towboats forthcoming from both Harvey, La.-based Eymard Marine Construction & Repair and Bourg, La.-based Intracoastal Iron Works (IIW). HFL recently took delivery of the first of those vessels from Intracoastal Iron Works.
The new boat is the mv. Donny Mudgett, a triple-screw, 2,400 hp. towboat that measures 78 feet by 34 feet. The Donny Mudgett features three Mitsubishi Tier 3 S6R2-Y3MPTAW main engines, each delivering 803 hp. at 1,400 rpm, from Covington, La.-based Laborde Products. All 11 vessels will have Mitsubishi main engines, with Laborde set to supply all 27.
“We’ve worked with Intracoastal for many years, and the Donny Mudgett is a continuation of that relationship,” said Kent Furlong, president of Hines Furlong Line. “This project brings together family-owned businesses on both the shipbuilding and supply side, and we value those relationships as much as the vessels themselves.”
Laborde Products President and CEO Brian Laborde said he’s excited for his company to be a part of HFL’s build program.
“We’re proud to support Hines Furlong on a project of this scale,” Laborde said. “It’s the kind of collaboration that plays to the strengths of everyone involved, and we appreciate the trust Hines Furlong has placed in our team.”
HFL operates a fleet of towboats at work on the Cumberland, Ohio, Tennessee, Illinois and Mississippi rivers. The company also has a lease fleet of towboats, tank barges and hopper barges. Hines Furlong Line, headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., was started in 2004, although the company has roots stretching back to the 1870s.
