MRC Announces 2025 Low Water Inspection Trip Dates
The Mississippi River Commission (MRC), headquartered in Vicksburg, Miss., has announced hearing dates for its 2025 Low Water Inspection trip. This will be the MRC’s 412th low water tour.
The tour begins in St. Louis, Mo., at the city front on August 15, and ends August 22 at the Port Commission Dock in Morgan City, La.
The MRC will stop in Caruthersville, Mo., at the city front on August 18; Memphis Tenn. at Mud Island Park Landing on August 19; and Greenville, Miss., at the city front on August 20.
“From strengthening infrastructure and improving flood protection to ensuring navigation and supporting economic growth, these hearings are a vital part of how we listen, respond and build together,” the MRC stated. “As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, we continue delivering solutions that protect and serve the nation.”
All meetings will be held from 9a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Attendees will hear from and have the opportunity to speak with members of the commission, including Maj. Gen. Kimberly Peeples, president of the board and commanding general of the Mississippi Valley Division.
The MRC was established by law in 1879 to monitor flood damage and control, watershed projects, river improvements and navigation. The commission consists of seven members: three Corps officers, one member of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and three civilians, two of whom must be civil engineers. Each member is nominated by the president and vetted by the Senate.
