T. Parker Host, which specializes in ship agency and terminal services, has acquired Impala Terminals Burnside (Impala Burnside), a bulk facility in Burnside, La., at Mile 169 on the Lower Mississippi River. In conjunction with the acquisition, which was announced September 29, Host renamed the site Ascension Bulk Terminal.
The terminal covers 230 acres, 190 acres of which is available for development. Host will invest $6 million in facility and equipment upgrades to grow the terminal’s capabilities and improve operations. The acquisition also includes Impala Fleeting Burnside, which provides barge fleeting for the terminal.
“Our investment in Ascension Bulk Terminal is a strategic step that solidifies our long-term presence in Louisiana and along the Lower Mississippi River,” said Adam Anderson, chairman and CEO of T. Parker Host. “With more than 500 employees and over $200 million invested in the region, this investment underscores our commitment to supporting prosperity and growth in Ascension Parish, the surrounding communities and the state of Louisiana.”
The acquisition brings Host’s Louisiana portfolio to three privately owned terminals. The others are United Bulk Terminals in Davant and Avondale Global Gateway (the former, historic Avondale Shipyard) in Avondale. Host also offers terminal and stevedoring services in Port Allen, near Baton Rouge. Altogether, those sites cover 1,500 acres, with 1,000 acres of that available for development.
Earlier this year, T. Parker Host acquired Transmarine Navigation Corporation, which expanded the company’s agency operations to the West Coast and Hawaii.
