Supporters of the Seamen’s Church Institute gathered at the Sunday River Resort in Newry, Maine, September 25–28 for the biennial SCI Mountain Challenge, which combines endurance, teamwork and philanthropy.

This year, 39 teams comprising 119 competitors from throughout the maritime industry took part in the challenge, which featured New England’s rugged terrain, paddling, climbing, hiking and surmounting obstacles. The 20-mile course included a 3,000-foot elevation gain.

More than a physical challenge, teams competing in this year’s SCI Mountain Challenge raised more than $540,000 for the organization, which serves seafarers and inland mariners through chaplaincy, education and advocacy.

Cargill was the lead sponsor of this year’s Mountain Challenge. Companies represented included ADM/ARTCo, The American Waterways Operators, Campbell Transportation Company, Cargill, Cooper Consolidated, Cooper Mooring, Kirby, Magnolia Marine, McAllister Towing, TradeWinds Towing and more.
