Obituaries: Emory Andrew Overstreet Jr., Joseph “Joe” Tegart

Emory Andrew Overstreet Jr. of Bayou La Batre, Ala., passed away at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., on September 18. He was 68 years old.
Overstreet worked for more than 50 years as a master shipbuilder. He spent the last six years working at Steiner Shipbuilding, with the majority of his career spent at Steiner Shipyard. He was a mentor in the industry and taught colleagues and future shipbuilders throughout his life.
Outside of work, Overstreet loved spending time with his family and enjoyed being out in nature, no matter the terrain.
“To those who knew him best, Overstreet was the embodiment of loyalty, love and quiet strength,” his obituary stated.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine, his children, Addie Overstreet and Emory Overstreet III, and stepchildren Ashley, Bradford and Britton, as well as his two sisters, Rondale and Dorothy. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life ceremony was held on October 4. Donations to the Mayo Clinic for transplant research may be made in lieu of flowers.

Joseph “Joe” Tegart, of New Albany, Ind., passed away November 9 at the age of 79 at the Villages at Historic Silvercrest in New Albany.
Tegart served as the president of sales and co-owner of the Port of Louisville. He previously held roles at American Commercial Barge Lines.
“Joe was well known around the region, especially in the barge and coal mining industries, but it will be his joy and zeal for life that will be missed most,” The Port of Louisville said in its announcement. “He never met a stranger. Joe leaves shoes that are impossible to fill, and he will be terribly missed. God bless Joe, our friend and leader.”
Tegart was a people person, a lifelong Catholic and Democrat. He loved to travel. His obituary stated that he had hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim.
He is survived by his daughter, Caitlin, and son, Eric, grandson, Lachlan, and six siblings. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Doris A. Tegart, his parents and four siblings.
Donations may be made in his honor to Mike B’s Community Christmas Breakfast.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, November 24 and the following morning at Kraft Funeral Service, followed by a funeral November 25 at the Kraft Spring Street Chapel.
