Obituary: David L. Fields

David L. Fields of Calvert City, Ky., died at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital on December 8. He was 71 years old.
Fields had an extensive maritime career, ultimately serving as senior port engineer for Marquette Transportation Company. He joined the industry as a young man and passed away with 51 years of river experience. In 2004, Marquette christened a 6,140 hp. towboat in his honor. The mv. David L. Fields continues to operate under his name.
Fields was just as handy outside of work as he was on tow. According to his obituary, he was known to be a “jack of all trade” with the uncanny ability to fix just about anything. His family remembers him as a selfless man with a loving and generous spirit.
Fields was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather. He is survived by his wife, Susan LeCompte Fields, as well as four children and four grandchildren.
