Laborde Products recently announced the repower of the mv. Marne B, a towboat owned by Industry Terminal & Salvage Inc., based in Industry, Pa.
The Marne B is now sporting twin Mitsubishi Tier 3 S12R engines, which have replaced the previous Cat 3512 diesels. This is only the second repower in which Laborde has replaced Cat engines with Mitsubishi. The engines provide a combined 1,350 hp. and 1,600 rpm.
“These projects come down to understanding the existing platform and applying the engines correctly,” said Dan Walsh, sales representative at Laborde Products. “With the Marne B, the focus was on horsepower, operating speed and getting the vessel back into service with a straightforward, supportable setup.”
According to the Inland River Record, the Marne B was built in 1972 by Main Iron Works, Houma, La. It survived a fire in 1999, and it has worked for several companies, including American Commercial Barge Line and Kirby Inland Marine LP, during its more than 50-year tenure on the river.
“This boat has a long working history, and the goal was to keep it moving forward with a strong repower,” said Donald Checkan, vice president of operations at Industry Terminal & Salvage, Inc. “Laborde understood the application and handled the conversion in a way that made sense for how the Marne B operates today.”
