Moran Towing Completes Bisso Integration

Moran Towing Corporation and Bisso Towboat Company announced the completion of their integration July 1. The plan to integrate was originally announced October 2.

Effective July 1, all Bisso Towboat operations are fully integrated into Moran Towing Corporation. Customers will experience no disruption to service, schedules or contracts with the same experienced crews and modern fleet remaining in place, now backed by Moran’s broader network across 17 ports and seven LNG terminals on the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts, according to a Moran Towing news release. The former Bisso headquarters in New Orleans will remain an active Moran operations base. Going forward, all operations will be conducted under the Moran Towing Corporation name, the company said.

“The strength of this combined organization goes beyond fleet size or geographic reach,” said Scott Slaten, strategic adviser for Moran Towing Corporation. “It is rooted in the talent, experience and shared values of the people who make it run every day. Together, we are exceptionally well positioned to meet the evolving demands of our customers well into the future. We are proud of what Bisso built over 135 years and confident that this legacy will carry forward under the Moran name.”

Moran Towing Corporation was founded in 1860, and it is headquartered in New Canaan, Conn. Originally founded as a towing provider in New York City, Moran has evolved over the decades into a leading marine service provider in the United States.

In addition to its maritime services, Moran offers complementary capabilities in environmental and industrial services, commercial diving and marine construction. Moran has operated in New Orleans since 2006.

New Orleans-based Bisso Towboat, founded in 1890, spent 135 years earning a reputation as the premier ship assist operator on the Lower Mississippi River, running the only all tractor-tug fleet on the river, with 11 vessels averaging just 12 years in age and a combined 51,056 hp. That fleet, along with 78 personnel, including 61 mariners and 17 shoreside staff, is now part of the Moran family.

“The completion of this integration is a significant milestone for Moran, and one that reflects the tireless effort and professionalism of both organizations,” said Ted Tregurtha, CEO and president of Moran Towing Corporation. “Bisso’s people and their commitment to excellence made this a seamless transition, and we are proud to welcome them to the Moran team as we continue to strengthen our presence on the Lower Mississippi River.”

The acquisition comes as exports of liquefied natural gas from the Gulf are soaring, the company noted, with south Louisiana leading the world in LNG exports.
