SCI Announces Award Recipients

The Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) will honor Lee Nelson, president and CEO of Upper River Services, LLC, with its River Bell Award on December 10 at its 26th annual River Bell Awards Luncheon.

SCI announced winners of some of its major awards on September 23.

Bruce McGinnis, CEO of McNational, Inc., will receive the River Legend Award. Deb Calhoun, senior vice president of Waterways Council, Inc., will receive the Distinguished Service Award.

The awards luncheon will take place at the Paducah-McCracken County Convention and Expo Center. Check-in and registration will begin at 11 a.m. with the luncheon and awards beginning at noon. The luncheon is one of SCI’s largest annual fundraisers, with proceeds supporting its mission, including pastoral care and chaplaincy through its Ministry on the River program. Three full-time chaplains are stationed in Paducah, Ky., Houston, Texas, and New Orleans, La., supported by chaplain associates in 14 states, according to SCI’s website. The chaplains are trained to provide crisis response, mental health support, guidance and to be a steady and compassionate presence for inland and Gulf Coast mariners.
