On December 30 Jeff McKee began a 120-day assignment as temporary chief of the Navigation Branch at the Corps of Engineers Headquarters Operations Division. In announcing McKees assignment Jim Hannon chief of the Operations and Regulatory Community of Practice at Corps HQ said Jeff brings an extensive amount of experience and knowledge of the Corps Navigation Program. Concerns about adequate federal government funding again were the focus of speakers at the WEDA Gulf Coast Regional Workshop held November 8 and 9 at the Westin Hotel in New Orleans. The Water Resources Coalition sent a letter the last week of October urging Congress to support H.R. 6184a bill to amend a provision in the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2000. The bill would to extend and modify Section 214 by allowing the Secretary of the Army to accept and expend funds contributed by non-federal entities to expedite the evaluation of permits. Without the legislation Section 214 will expire on December 31st. Read More
