Damen Delivers CSD500 To Basra Gateway Terminal in Iraq

Basra Gateway Terminal has taken ownership of a customized Damen Cutter Suction Dredge CSD500 that will be used immediately for an extension project at the Basra Gateway Terminal at the Port of Umm Qasr in Iraq. The dredge, named Ishtar or “Goddess of Love,” was chosen particularly for its two separate diesel engines, one for the dredge pump and the auxiliary for all other power needs. Damen added a spud carriage pontoon and anchor booms and an accommodation unit in the operating cabin. The cutter ladder was extended to allow for a dredging depth of 16 meters (52 feet). Delivery also included a swivel hose and 400 meters (1,312 feet) of floating pipe line.

The Basra Gateway Terminal project is part of a port enlargement project. For this phase, the Ishtar will be used to deepen the container terminal resulting in an additional 400 meters (1,312 feet) of quay added to the port capacity. Dredge Maritime Consultancy is responsible for on-site project management and execution.
