Corps Seeks Comment on Dillingham Harbor Dredging

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Alaska District will host a public meeting to gather and consider public comments on the annual maintenance dredging project for Dillingham small boat harbor.

The event will be held on Monday, April 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers, 141 Main Street, Dillingham, Alaska 99576.

Corps representatives will be available to answer questions and receive public comments following a brief presentation about the project history. Further information on the Corps’ maintenance dredging at Dillingham Harbor is provided in the existing 2007 Environmental Assessment. According to the EA, dredging occurs annually due to heavy siltation in the channel and upper basin which houses more than 300 boats, both commercial fishing vessels and recreational boats. It suggests dredging be done with a contracted hydraulic cutterhead and 12-inch suction dredge and material pumped to two inland confined dewatering facilities. The document may be viewed on the Alaska District’s website at:https://www.poa.usace.army.mil/Library/Reports-and-Studies/. On that webpage, look under “Reports on Active Projects.”
