Dredge Tender Sinks Near Matagorda Ship Channel

A 20-foot Mike Hooks dredge tender sank March 1 near buoy 30 in the Matagorda Ship Channel. U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi soon thereafter established a safety zone for 500 yards around the area, with vessel passage prohibited through the safety zone without Coast Guard permission.

By the next day, surveys had located the vessel and identified 32 feet of water above it. At that point, vessels with drafts less than 15 feet were allowed to transit the area.

The Coast Guard reported on March 3 that salvage efforts were complete, with the vessel removed from the ship channel and all restrictions lifted.
