CGB Applies For New Fleeting Area Permit On Ohio

Consolidated Grain & Barge Company (CGB) is seeking a permit for a fleeting area on the left descending bank at Ohio River Mile 842.5 in Uniontown, Ky.

CGB plans to construct the new fleeting area for barge staging upstream of its existing fleeting area. The new fleeting area would consist of one row of barges moored six wide (riverward). It would allow for more efficient barge-loading operations and provide an additional holding area when the existing fleeting company is unable to pick up barges within a specific period, CGB said.

The proposed barge configuration would project 215 feet into the river at normal pool of 342.0 feet. The barges would be moored to an existing deadman on the bank with a 1¼-inch steel cable.

The permit application was filed March 12, and the public comment period with the Louisville Engineer District continues through April 11.
