SCI Hosts Suicide Prevention Training

Seamen’s Church Institute will host SafeTALK suicide prevention training October 26 at its Center for Maritime Education in Paducah, Ky.

Training will take place from 8 a.m. to noon, with coffee and pastries provided beginning at 7:40 a.m. The center is located at 129 S. Water St.

SafeTALK is a half-day program designed to raise awareness and equip participants with the necessary skills to identify and help people who may be having suicidal thoughts.

“For some, a loved one lost to suicide can come out of nowhere,” SCI Chaplain David Shirk said. “They didn’t see or dismissed the signs.” SafeTALK provides the confidence to confront it, to ask the difficult questions and gain essential knowledge and tools that can make a difference in helping those who may be suffering.”
