Grant Funds Owensboro Port Road, Storage Pad
The Owensboro (Ky.) Riverport Authority is receiving $1.12 million in grant funds to construct an access road and an additional storage and loading area to support rail infrastructure expansion.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s office announced the grant awards January 8. The funding comes from the Kentucky Industrial Access and Safety Improvements program, which provides a 50 percent match for projects strengthening rail connectivity, improving service to existing industries or supporting new investment.
The grant will allow paving 26,500 square feet with asphalt for an access road and pouring 41,700 square feet of concrete for storage and loading and unloading railcars.
“Through the leadership of our governor and legislators, this KIASI grant program is helping ports and industries statewide expand rail capacity for current and future growth,” said Brian Wright, president and CEO of the Owensboro Riverport Authority. “The Owensboro Riverport Authority is honored to receive this grant and looks forward to continuing to support industrial growth and job creation in western Kentucky.”
