For the ninth year, 40 of the industry’s future leaders were honored at the Inland Marine Expo with the “40 Under 40” award, which recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to the inland marine transportation industry in a variety of fields. All 40 honorees were nominated by executives and peers for their hard work and dedication to the industry.
Over the course of 10 weeks, The Waterways Journal is featuring recipients. This week we recognize Andrew Neal, Marcus Porter, Michael Riley and Kerrigan Robin.
Andrew Neal
Andrew Neal, 36, is a manager at A&A Riverways – CGB Waterfront Services Company.
In 2014, Neal took over the family business from his father, Richie Neal, who started A&A Riverways in 1998. Rather than warehousing, the company delivers groceries to mariners fresh off the shelf. A&A Riverways has continued to grow under Andrew’s leadership, and in 2022, he led the business into a partnership with CGB Waterfront Services Company. The company now delivers critical supplies to vessels from St. Louis, Mo., to Nashville, Tenn.
Neal is known for his dedication to both his team and to the crews and customers he serves. Rather than watch from the sidelines, Neal will deliver supplies himself, even during the toughest weather conditions. Whether it’s supplying deckhands with a fresh meal after long shifts or fulfilling a captain’s last-minute request, Neal is known for always showing up and searching for even the most elusive product. His reliability and relentless work ethic has solidified his position as a valuable leader.
“As a young leader in the maritime supply sector, Andrew Neal exemplifies the resilience, dedication and customer-first mindset that define the inland marine transportation industry,” said Michelle Hopkins, human resource assistant at CGB Waterfront Services Company. “His work has not only strengthened A&A Riverways but has also made a lasting impact on the efficiency and well-being of the entire sector. Whether it’s making late-night deliveries, sourcing hard-to-find equipment or ensuring the highest quality service, Andrew goes above and beyond for his customers and his team. His vision, work ethic and unwavering commitment to the industry continue to shape its future, earning him the respect of captains, crews and industry professionals alike.”
Marcus Porter
Marcus Porter, 36, is the corporate sales manager of the marine division at The Hiller Companies.
Porter graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. After several years of working in sales, he began his career at The Hiller Companies as corporate account manager in 2017 and was promoted to his current position in 2021. Devoted to his customers and the industry, Porter has proven himself to be an invaluable member of the Hiller team.
“Marcus has paid his dues in our industry,” said Jason Bedsole, program manager of the Hiller Water Mist Division at Hiller Companies. “Marcus has brown water running through his veins. His customer support is unmatched by any other person at Hiller, and he is dedicated to getting solutions to problems, not creating more. Marcus is a Hiller Companies man with a get it done attitude every step of the way.”
Michael Riley
Michael Riley, 38, is the director of liquid logistics and customer service at Ingram Barge Company.
Riley started his maritime career as a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy in 2010. He started his career at Ingram Barge Company as a nighttime fleet dispatcher and deckhand right after graduating. He has since held positions such as assistant fleet manager (Triangle Reserve and Capital Port Allen fleets), liquids logistics manager and liquids sales manager before taking up his current role as director of liquid logistics and customer service.
After 16 years at Ingram Barge Company, Riley has proven himself to be a top-quality leader. He is known to be a knowledgeable and inspiring mentor, with a deep passion for the industry and an attitude of steadfast commitment to his team.
“Mike has created an atmosphere of success at all levels and has earned the respect of many,” said Debbie Owen, Ingram Barge Company’s assistant vice president of logistics and customer service. “His unselfish efforts are motivating, and (I’m) confident he will play a large role in shaping the future of the marine industry.”
Kerrigan Robin
Kerrigan Robin, 39, is vice president of sales at NABRICO Marine Products
Robin’s career in the maritime industry has spanned operations, asset management, freight sales and barge construction. After joining Arcosa in 2023, Robin immediately established himself as a driven and committed professional, forging relationships with long-time industry leaders to ensure their needs were continuously met as he transitioned into the role. He is known as a respected leader who prioritizes connections and success in the industry.
Robin is known for his advocacy, regularly attending events such as The American Waterways Operators (AWO) or Waterways Council Inc. (WCI), as well as taking part in fundraising initiatives to raise awareness for necessary causes. The company credits him with the inception of the ADMIRALTY Luncheon, an event held at the end of the International Workboat Show to celebrate the maritime industry and its leaders.
“Kerrigan truly cares about the industry and his customers,” said Bryson Person, president of NABRICO Marine Products. “He is a man of his word and has a strong work ethic that he exercises daily to drive toward solutions for all stakeholders.”
