Service Trucks International Opens New Tiger Cranes Facility

Service Trucks International (STI) celebrated the opening of a 56,000-square-foot manufacturing and assembly facility with an October 2 ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for its Tiger Cranes product line in Sioux Center, Iowa.

The 16-month project includes seven assembly bays, interior and exterior load-testing areas and inventory storage for more than 70 completed units. The facility will allow Tiger Cranes to produce more than twice its previous output.

The building also features a 300-well geothermal heating and cooling system to provide a climate-controlled work environment.

“Investment in manufacturing is critical to our local economy,” said Walt Van Laren, president of STI. “This building is a testament to our community that we can build a facility like this. It allows a dream that we’ve had to come to life while laying the groundwork for future expansion.”

Tiger Cranes has manufactured mobile cranes for 36 years. The cranes are used on STI mechanic’s trucks serving the agriculture, road construction, site preparation and utility industries. They also are installed on trucks from other manufacturers and used in rail and inland marine applications for cargo management.

The new facility is the first phase of a three-phase, multimillion-dollar expansion project. The second and third phases will expand service body production and add a new corporate office and administrative building.

Based in Sioux Center, STI has manufactured service truck bodies, mechanic’s truck bodies and crane bodies since 1987. Its Tiger Cranes division has produced telescoping cranes since 1990.
