Dorena-Hickman Ferry Reopens

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry connecting Dorena, Mo., with Hickman, Ky., has reopened as floodwaters have receded on the Mississippi River.

The ferry reopened April 12 after the water dropped off the Kentucky landing in Hickman Harbor, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. It had closed March 19.

It is the second time the ferry has closed this year due to high water. The ferry was also closed February 11 to March 2. The ferry normally must close when the gauge at Cairo, Ill., exceeds 44 feet.

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry connects Ky. 1354 at Hickman with Missouri Route A and Route 77 near Dorena. It is located at Mile 922.0 and operates during daylight hours. The ferry is the only direct route connecting Kentucky and Missouri.
