Minneapolis Locks Close For Navigation Season
The St. Paul Engineer District is closing its Minneapolis locks for the season, ending navigation at Lower St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam and Lock and Dam 1.
The closures affect both commercial and recreational navigation as the district ends operations at the two Minneapolis facilities for the year.
The St. Paul District operates and maintains 13 locks and dams along the Upper Mississippi River between Minneapolis and Guttenberg, Iowa, as part of the system that provides a 9-foot navigation channel for commercial navigation.
Navigation will continue on the Mississippi River downstream of Lock and Dam 1, with additional seasonal closures and maintenance activities scheduled farther downriver.
The Minneapolis locks reopened for the 2026 navigation season April 19. Lower St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam and Lock and Dam 1 provide navigation access through the Minneapolis area.
